Splashes of Colors

Together with our teachers, we recalled what we did with the rainbow portrait which we started working on yesterday. We remembered looking at rainbow photos, using colored pencils & oil crayons, and singing along with Shelley.

Colors just don’t come from crayons, it can come from any object! Together with John and Nanako, we added feathers and pompoms of varied colors. It was not only a treat for our eyes to see such wonderful, vibrant colors but also for our little fingers and hands. We love to feel and touch! The pompoms allowed us to strengthen our fingers by pinching and squishing. It was also fun working with feathers as it gets easily flown away by the fresh air that blows in to the room. Working with paste is always a fun, messy challenge for us. It gets to our hair, hands, and sometimes the floor! We are very thankful that Goh San always helps us in cleaning up.

 Colored Bears & Lego Blocks

Another  activity involved colorful counting bears and Lego blocks in both solid & translucent colors. We compared the two types of Lego blocks… why is it that we can see through the translucent colored ones while we can’t with the solid colored one?

With imagination, we lined up bears, pretended to call each other through “mobile phones”, and stacked blocks to build towers

A Pool of Colorful Wooden Blocks

Yesterday’s tactile pathway equipment was again formed into a circle but filled with colorful wooden blocks! Unlike the plastic balls, we couldn’t just throw these blocks up in the air as it’s much heavier and might cause us an “ouchie”.

There’s something about being huddled inside a circle… it provides us opportunities to collaborate and socialize. Some of us had a brilliant idea of pouring out all of the wooden blocks from its container and turn our special little circle into a pool! We had a blast “swimming” and laughing.

 CIRCLE TIME

Since we used a lot of wooden blocks, it took us quite a while to pack away all of it.  It was interesting that when Erika asked us to form a circle, instead of standing, most of us laid down on our backs. Oh! A different way to start Circle Time! We listened to the song, “Song to the Mountains” to help us calm down and rest after a very tiring packing away period. While listening to the song, we were asked to put our legs up and pretend to be riding a bicycle too!

After we’ve rested, we were introduced to a new song by Patty Shukla entitled, “Shake and Move”.  Each of us was given a rainbow pompom after we’ve greeted our friends, “Good Morning!” and proudly say our name in a loud voice when asked. We taped the rainbow pompoms to our Halloween Tree so that it would slowly turn into a Colorful Tree!

We also went out to a nearby pond and had fun gathering fallen red & yellow leaves. We crushed the dried leaves threw it into the water! Hope you enjoyed the wonderful weather like we did.
