The Loquat and Versatile Dough

 The Versatile Dough

And on we continue with our pretend gastronomic journey of learning different cultures through food! One table had a bowl of warm dough ready to be kneaded with our ideas. Along with it were rolling pins, plastic knives, and cookie cutters available for us to use.

We kneaded, rolled, pinched, tossed, and poked the dough to our hearts’ desire until our sensory needs were satisfied. With the dough being in a neutral color… the ideas are endless! The little bakers and chefs in us proudly placed each of our finished outcome on a silver platter. Here’s a list of what we made:

  1. T : stew (placed dough inside cookie cutters)

  2. R : pizza (tossing the dough)

  3. H : bread (marked the top of the with lines)

  4. E : pancake (rolling and flattening)

  5. J : birthday cake (rolling)

K made a cool discovery! When she pressed her entire palm onto the bowl of sticky dough… it went through the in between of her fingers and it resembled a duck’s web feet! T also found it interesting when dough would slowly fall off from his hand when held up high!

Updating our Portfolio

We had lots of “leftover” from yesterday’s Chinese New Year celebration and helped Liezel in “wrapping” it up by pasting it in our portfolio. The red packet, gold coins, and noodles we made were pasted. While doing so, it was nice to recall yesterday’s event by sharing what was most memorable for us… hint:  and !

This activity helps in memory recall and social & verbal skills as we are asked to narrate what we remember.

Welcome back, Nanako and John!

We are over the moon happy to have all Buds teachers back in full swing with Nanako and John joining us today! They are dearly missed and we made sure they felt our warm welcome by having them join our play.

While at the park, we were in full charge of directing our play! We asked Nanako and John to chase us by asking, “John John, catch me please!” and when we get tired from being chased around, we’d say, “Stop please, Nanako!” We are also quite funny by asking John and Nanako to catch Ate Liezel instead for our entertainment.

Circle Time

To give our teachers a warm welcome, we opened the dance floor by dancing to The Champs’ “Tequila”. Our dance moves are getting a whole lot more “complicated” as we are adding more complex and multiple actions in one move! Favorite moves are :

  1. alternately doing the twist with our legs

  2. making the with our fingers while moving our arms up & down

  3. various yoga poses

To the tune of “Where is Thumbkin?”, we had our morning roll call by trying to identify each other’s name tags. Through repetition of this activity and seeing our name labels around the room, we are getting better at sight reading which will eventually transition to us learning phonetic sounds as we associate sound to the letters’ image.

The Loquat

We found the loquat fruit that we picked up from the temple grounds two weeks ago! Erika asked us our opinions about it…

  1. What did it resemble?

  2. How do we describe its appearance?

  3. What’s inside of it?

When we were trying to figure about question #3, some of us were asked to “open”the loquat. How do we do it? By peeling off its skin! While peeling, we started to smell something familiar… it smelled of citrus… like the mandarins and oranges that we have for snacks! We went further on with our loquat exploration by ”dissecting” it and identifying the texture of its flesh!

What a wonderful day of reunion and exploration!

We hope you all are having a wonderful Wednesday!

Love, Buds Class Children
